Taiwan Kaohsiung Juvenile and Family Court of ROC Was Established on June 1, 2012
To guarantee the rights and interests for women, children and the disadvantaged of society thoroughly


(Staff reporter) The juvenile and family justice system of ROC, Taiwan has made great progress and reached a new milestone since Taiwan Kaohsiung Juvenile and Family Court, which is the first juvenile and family court in our country, was established on June 1, 2012.

President Lai of Judicial Yuan, ROC pointed out in his opening ceremony speech that due to rapid social changes, juvenile and family issues were becoming increasingly complicated and serious and the corresponding system therefore also needed adjustment. The set up of a court specialized in juvenile and family cases was an important page in the development of flexible justice. The Family Proceedings Act had been enacted and enforced to achieve the goal of 'one family, one court'. The Judicial Yuan had restructured Kaohsiung Juvenile Court Taiwan Kaohsiung Juvenile and Family Court to make sure the rights and interests of women, children and the socially disadvantaged could be better protected. Meanwhile, the necessity to consolidate the assistance from social work, psychology and counseling specialists in juvenile and family cases had also been taken into consideration. It was hoped that through a perfected professional review system, combining judges with related backgrounds or special training and the help of specialists in related fields as well as the administrative and social resources in the areas of social work, psychology, counseling, mediation, psychiatry, and so forth, juvenile and family issues could be rapidly and appropriately resolved and thus the rights and interests of socially disadvantaged families could be safeguarded.

People who attended the ceremony took a tour around the court building to see the space redesigned in accordance with the Family Proceedings Act. They praised the efforts the court had made to create a friendly environment to provide judicial services. The people-friendly and innovative measures of the justice department left a deep impression in everyone.
