As the Statue Governing Seizing Mobsters Lapsed, Persons under Correctional Measures were Successfully Released


 The Statue Governing Seizing Mobsters were abolished by the Legislative Yuan in their 16th meeting of the second session of the 7th term held on January 6, 2009. The abolishment was announced by the President on January 21, and the Statute lapsed on January 23. In response to the abolishment, the Judicial Yuan has stipulated the “Courts Measures in response to the Abolishment of the Statute Governing Seizing Mobsters” on January 8, as a reference to the Courts of the First and Second Instance; it also prepared the courts for the abolishment in advance.
 Based on statistics, the courts shall deal with 393 people under correctional measures, and 164 people currently wanted by the law shall be removed from the list. To be cautious, the courts has contacted and confirmed with the police, institutes enforcing the correctional measures, and the prosecutor office. Before the noon of January 23, the release, return, continued custody, law enforcement on other criminal cases, and relevant measures were all accomplished. By 12:00 o’clock of the invalid date, 176 were released, 44 returned under police supervision to the original jail which in charge of the criminal case, 9 were put under custody by the court, and 164 cases went back to the prosecutors for other criminal cases involved. The courts also removed 164 people currently wanted by the law from the list.
